Parsenn

The Birthplace of Modern Skiing

The history of skiing in Davos is deeply intertwined with Parsenn, one of Switzerland’s oldest and most iconic ski areas. Parsenn was the first ski resort in the Davos region and played an important role in the development of modern winter sports. In 1931, the first ski lift in the region was introduced, marking a milestone in the history of alpine skiing.

Today, Parsenn is a legendary name in the world of skiing. The area has hosted numerous historic events, including the first International Ski Championships and a variety of prestigious ski races. The Parsenn Bahn, the historic cable car, continues to carry visitors to some of the highest peaks, offering stunning panoramic views and access to some of the most scenic slopes in the Alps.

Snow & avalanche research

The Weissfluhjoch mountain, located near the top of the Parsenn ski area, is a key location for both avalanche research and control operations. The Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) has conducted numerous studies in the Parsenn region, particularly at Weissfluhjoch, where a combination of natural and controlled avalanches can be monitored. The knowledge gained from these studies has contributed to improving avalanche warning systems not only in the region but across the Alps. Thanks to years of collaboration between the resort’s rescue services and scientific researchers, Parsenn has become a leading example of how ski resorts can integrate safety, research, and technology.

The legendary ski run

from Weissfluhgipfel to Küblis

The resort’s legendary ski run, which descends from the summit to the town of Küblis, holds a special place in the hearts of skiers and mountaineers alike. Stretching over 12 kilometers (7.5 miles), the descent from Parsenn's high-altitude summit offers a thrilling and challenging ride through deep snow-covered valleys, forests, and open alpine terrain.

This historic run was one of the first to be developed in the early days of ski tourism in the 1930s and remains a must-do for advanced skiers visiting Davos. In fact, it was initially used for the first-ever ski races in the region, cementing Parsenn’s status as a premier destination for both recreational and competitive skiers.
